Garrison is considered an Endurance upgrade with increased yield potential and test weight. Winterhardiness matched with late maturity reduces the susceptibility for Garrison to spring freeze. Current yield data available at www.wheat.okstate.edu.
Garrison has an acidic soil tolerance similar to that of Gallagher and Duster. Garrison is stable in both test weight and protein content with mixing tolerance. Other traits that are above average for Garrison include shattering tolerance, ability to stay green, along with baking and milling.
Garrison is resistant to several diseases such as early-season leaf rust, stripe rust, fusarium head blight, and septoria leaf blotch. Garrison also shows immunity towards viruses including Barley Yellow Dwarf, Wheat Soilborne, and Wheat Spindle Streak Mosaic.
One of Garrison's key attributes is the wide range of adaptation. Although the adaptation range is a positive attribute Garrison is limited to primarily grain-only management systems. Location of operation should also be considered due to Garrison's lack of resistance to the Hessian fly. With correct management Garrison has the ability to yield outstanding numbers in a wide area of application.
